About
In my opinion, to be a jeweler today, you need to have a high aesthetic culture, understanding of the material and historical preparation. Of course it is not the simplest thing in the world, but the wealth of a jeweler, from my point of view, is knowledge, experience and preparation.
At 16 I worked in a diamond cutting shop where I learned the concept of how diamonds are cut. I cut diamonds for a short time, I am not a cutter as it is a job that must be practiced for a long time to learn the diamond polishing techniques, it is like sailing, there are no shortcuts, you have to practice continuously to years under the guidance of a “master“. I worked in Milan and in Valenza Po as a cutter of colored stones, where the precision necessary to cut diamonds allowed me to quickly learn how to cut Sapphires, Rubies, Emeralds and other semi-precious stones.
This period of about 5 years has allowed me to have an experience on which I have built my whole life, deepening day after day and understanding more and more how immense the field of jewelry is.
The techniques needed to understand to create harmonic forms in creating jewelry, joining metal and precious stones must become part of the education of the jeweler. The pleasure of music is like the pleasure of food which is like the pleasure of an emerald set in a jewel.
The jeweler needs a different education, it is essential to learn the meaning of harmony, color, warmth, aesthetics, pleasure, lightness. It is essential to grow spiritually to unite metal and precious stones in harmonic union that gives a jewel as a product, which results in the expression of the understanding of beauty through lines, gold, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, etc., and arousing in the observer a emotion, admiration for what has been produced.
Those who buy a jewelry brand do not have this, they do not have the creativity necessary to carry on love and harmony. When I talked to a dear friend of mine Luca Busatti, also a jeweler but with much more experience than me, about the fact that famous brands had been acquired by wealthy companies, he said: “Those who buy the major jewelry brands lack one thing. that we have, the love for work “.
At the end of this conversation I understood; we have a different education, we not only do the things we love but we love what we do, it is this type of education that has evolved, the interest in creation for the product, for the jewel, for life, brings us to live an aesthetic life in all its components. A jeweler does not make a jewel just to do it, he creates with love and the result is harmony.
Not everyone will appreciate that harmony but not everyone wears blue and not everyone speaks English.
The preparation of each of us leads us to take different paths. A successful individual has no luck because he meets luck on the road, but along the path of life there are occasions where he learns, does one thing rather than another and learning goes towards that opportunity that presents itself before him, not snubs it.
As if to say, to see the sunrise you get up early when it is still dark and when the sun rises you have to have your eyes open and you can admire the sun that rises and from the darkness you will have the light, only in this way you can appreciate the ‘Sunrise. You have to get up early to admire and enjoy the moment. But that moment quickly escapes if you don’t catch it at the right time.
In the life of each of us there are moments to be grasped and these moments make the difference. I became a jeweler because I took many moments where I learned and growing up I learned, it is not a mystery, it is not luck, it is conscious growth.
I was “lucky” yes maybe yes, but I was there when the opportunity became available and that opportunity was teaching. I learned from those who were willing to explain to me, to teach me one thing after another and this set of notions resulted in a different education.
Now I am a jeweler and I start learning much faster than before, I have not stopped, I just increased the learning speed. There is no end, you never stop learning. Knowledge is comparable to all the grains on a beach and what we know is only a few grains.
The amount of knowledge available is infinite, those who think they know or know everything are living in an unreal dimension. I have come to understand that in addition to being a father, husband, friend, I am also a jeweler. I miss being an ASTRONAUT, CHEMIST, WINEMAKER, ARCHAEOLOGIST, SOMMOZZATORE, PIZZAIOLO, RESTORER OF STAMPS, FARMER, COOK, DIVER, CLIMBER, EXPLORER, etc., etc.
How to say “TO BE or NOT TO BE”.
This is true for each of us.
